For the second year FAU Athletics Partners with F.I.N.E.S.S.E. to Offer its Youth Full-Contact Football Camp   Rusty Smith will take part in the F.I.N.E.S.S.E camp March 7, 2011 BOCA RATON, FL - Florida Atlantic University Athletics has joined efforts with the F.I.N.E.S.S.E. Foundation to host its second annual five-day football camp from Sunday, June 19 to Thursday, June 23 at FAU's Tom Oxley Athletic Center, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The camp offers both a sleep over and non-sleep options. The sleep over campers stay in one of the on campus dorms. The camp, designed for boys ages 7 to 14, is a full-contact camp. Instruction will come from an exciting combination of top-level collegiate coaches, as well as current and former NFL players and coaches including New York Jet Santonio Holmes, Miami Dolphins Vonate Davis and Sean Smith and FAU's own Tennessee Titans QB, Rusty Smith. "F.I.N.E.S.S.E. is excited to be working with FAU to provide a high quality, cost-effective youth football camp in south Florida," said Richard Iamunno, board member and director of F.I.N.E.S.S.E. "We are looking forward to creating an ongoing program that will assist not only the development of each camper's football and athletic skills, but, we also want to support the importance of character and sportsmanship in youth tackle football." The camp proceeds will help fund F.I.N.E.S.S.E.'s charitable endeavors, as well as fund scholarships for the FAU football program. FAU athletics does not receive assistance from the state of Florida to fund scholarships. "This is a tremendous opportunity for FAU athletics to collaborate with such a fine organization," said Terry Mohajir, FAU's associate athletics director for external relations. "We are privileged to partner with an outstanding group of community leaders that care so deeply for youth sports in the south Florida community. It's exciting to work with a community nonprofit, especially when it can benefit both organizations." F.I.N.E.S.S.E., which stands for Families Intent on Nurturing and Encouraging Scholastic and Sports Excellence, is a nonprofit tax-exempt organization committed to sports and academic excellence. The Foundation's executive director is Bruce Terry Brown, a native of south Florida who played football and ran track at Boyd Anderson High School in Fort Lauderdale. Brown went on to attend undergraduate classes and law school at Columbia University. He was also a member of Columbia's football team. Brown currently is the assistant federal prosecutor for the Department of Justice in south Florida.
F.I.N.E.S.S.E. directs its attention toward youth football and track and field activities. F.I.N.E.S.S.E recently held its fourth track meet, second at FAU's new facility, where Corey Hicks, a former Olympic decathlon athlete, serves as a board member and coach. Not only does F.I.N.E.S.S.E. concentrate on the academic and athletic goals, but the foundation also works closely to assist the athletes' families.
